What We Make With Words

CCA, Glasgow

December 2011

Thom Walker’s work uses historical events of scientific exploration as a starting point to make drawings and text pieces. Concentrating on the fields of geography and astronomy his work looks at attempts of defining and expanding peoples notions of their environment. Focusing on the moments when a discovering is almost achieved but the precise findings are still loose and out of focus.

For What We Make With Words Walker will make a new drawing directly onto the wall utilising the space and dimensions of the gallery. The work will use large ripped apart pieces of ink soaked paper incorporated as drawn elements. These fragmented paper forms will be bridged by an intricate mesh of marks on the wall acting as a canopy layer arching above the viewer moving upwards towards the roof.
